Exterior rendering and render repair
Full house renders, single elevations and patch repairs, in pebbledash or smooth finishes matched to the rest of the property. Forty years of getting it to stay on.
Render is the part of a house that takes the weather full in the face, year after year, and eventually it tells you about it. Blown patches that sound hollow, cracks opening around window reveals, staining running down from a gutter that has been overflowing quietly for two winters.
The mistake is to render over the top of a failing surface because it looks fine on the day. It will not hold. Steve checks what is actually going on behind before anything goes on the wall, because a render that has to be done twice costs you double.
What we take on
- Full house renders, front to back, in the finish you want.
- Single elevations, usually the one facing the weather, where the rest of the house is still sound.
- Patch repairs where render or pebbledash has blown or come away, matched into the existing finish.
- Pebbledash, both new and repaired, matched to the existing stone and coverage as closely as possible.
- Smooth render finishes, ready for painting once they have had time to cure.
- Render around new extensions, so the addition does not stand out from the original house.
Matching an existing finish
Anyone can render a wall. Making a repair disappear into an eighty year old pebbledash wall is a different skill, and it is where experience actually shows.
Steve looks at the existing finish before he starts: the texture, the stone, the colour and how it has weathered. A patch that is technically perfect but obviously newer than everything around it is still a job you will not be happy with.
On older properties it is also worth checking what the wall itself wants. Not every old building is best served by a hard, dense modern render, and getting that wrong traps moisture rather than keeping it out. Steve will talk that through with you before deciding.
Timing and weather
Render needs reasonable conditions to go on and to cure. Too cold, too wet or too hot and fast and you end up with a finish that cracks or fails early.
That means exterior work sometimes moves by a day or two, and Steve would rather be straight with you about that than promise a date the weather is going to break anyway. Once it is on, it needs time to dry before it sees paint.
Where we work
Exterior rendering is available across Hanwell and the rest of West London.

Exterior Rendering, answered
Usually, yes. Steve will check how far the loose area actually goes, because the failed section is often bigger than the part that has visibly come away, then match the repair into the existing finish.
Matching pebbledash is standard work here. Steve looks at the existing texture and stone before starting so the repair does not stand out from the rest of the wall.
It needs to cure properly first, and how long that takes depends on the weather and the finish. Painting too early traps moisture and the paint does not last. Steve will tell you when it is ready.
That depends on the height and the access, and it is one of the things Steve works out when he comes to look at the job. It gets covered in the price rather than appearing later as a surprise.
